THE POLLEN AND PALAEOBOTANICAL DATABASE FROM THE EARLY AND MIDDLE PALAEOLITHIC SITES OF THE FORMER USSR TERRITORY

Currently BARPP-A contains all of the Early-Middle Palaeolothic palaeobotanical information (data on 69 sites, the bibliography on 169 publications). There is some Upper Palaeolithic data in the BARPP-A also. The important part of the BARP is presented by previously unpublished materials - the large series of pollen data on the best stratified sites from Carpathians, Altai and Caucasus (materials of G.M.Levkovskaya on sites Korolevo I, Denisova, Kudaro I, Kudaro III, Matouzka, Treugolnaya, Mezmaiskaya, etc.). The maps show that the most of the Middle Palaeolithic materials are obtained from Caucasus, but the Upper Palaeolithic - from the Russian Plain. The BARP can be considered not only as palaeobotanical but as the chronological and stratigraphical bank for the archaeological sites with palaeobotanical materials, because the correlations of all layers (even archaeologicaly or palaeobotanicaly sterile) with different dating (C14, palaeomagnetic, etc.) and with chronostratigraphical markers or O16/O18 stages are presented in the Bank.

The palaeobotanical information is given in the BARP in the form of stastical tables, diagrams, maps, images of the objects (SEM-micrographs of the objects of the food-gathering, palynoterates, etc.) and text tables. The text tables contain archaeological information and also all of the 99 positions that are recommended by European Pollen Database.

The authors invite all who are interested in the materials of the BARP to contact them.
